The Next Gen NOS Model Skill Assessment System Survey

Thank you for attending today's webinar.

Please reply to this survey and provide feedback on the skill assessment system.

Contact us at Coastal.Coupling@noaa.gov if you have any questions.

Current NOS skill metric thresholds are focused on navigation needs.

Existing NOS target error/bias range:
  • Water level: ±0.15 m
  • Temperature: ±3°C
  • Salinity: ±3.5 PSU
  • Current speed: ±0.26 m/s
  • Where acceptable model performance means ≥90% of error values fall within the target range, and ≤1% of error values fall outside of the target error range multiplied by two

NOS currently doesn’t have skill metrics for compound flooding, inundation or ice-related variables.

Some of this system's capabilities include:
  • Python code to run your own analyses
  • 1D web-based visualizations
  • 2D web-based visualizations
  • 3D web-based visualizations

  • A Federal agency may not conduct or sponsor, and a person is not required to respond to, nor shall a person be subject to a penalty for failure to comply with an information collection subject to the requirements of the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995 unless the information collection has a currently valid OMB Control Number. The approved OMB Control Number for this information collection is 0690-0030. Without this approval, we could not conduct this survey. Public reporting for this information collection is estimated to be approximately 20 minutes per response, including the time for reviewing instructions, searching existing data sources, gathering and maintaining the data needed, and completing and reviewing the information collection. All responses to this information collection are voluntary. Send comments regarding this burden estimate or any other aspect of this information collection, including suggestions for reducing this burden to Coastal.Coupling@noaa.gov.
